The video is called “I Review UK vs US Cheapest Burger! (£1 vs $1.39)” and it’s from the channel Gary Eats, a Brit*sh guy who goes around trying street food, cheap food and gastronomic messes all over the fucking world.
Gary starts in Las Vegas, United States, and goes straight to White Castle, the chain famous for its “sliders” (those tiny little burgers that fit in a kid’s hand).
The deal is that the Original Slider costs $1.39 and according to him it’s the cheapest in the whole United States.
The guy arrives, orders one + a Coke, the payment system breaks down (pure machine mess), they offer him the food for free but Gary, being the honest bastard he is, still leaves the money so it’s fair.
He sits down, opens the little package and… what a disappointment, fucking hell!
The slider is tiny, almost a joke.
He says it’s smaller than he expected, with a “slimy” texture (slimy, as if it were half-raw or too greasy), onion and a flavor that doesn’t convince him at all.
He tries it, makes faces of “this is fucking terrible”, complains that it’s not properly cooked on both sides and that it lacks juiciness. He even mocks it saying he’s “bullying” the burger because of how small it is. He concludes that it’s disappointing, especially because the United States is “the home of the burger”.
He drinks the Coke to wash down the taste and leaves ready for the next round.
Then the scene changes and he goes to Blackpool, England (the “Vegas of the North” as he calls it, with the Blackpool Tower in the background).
There he arrives at Higgins Family Amusements, a fairground/amusement place famous for its £1 burger (one fucking pound sterling, which at the exchange rate of the time comes out to almost the same or a little less than the $1.39).
He meets the owner Chris (a local food hero), chats for a bit, orders the burger with onion and sauces (red and mustard, the guy is a “red man”), and even leaves £50 so they can give free burgers to the next people (one-upping another YouTuber named Danny who had only paid 40).
The British burger looks much more decent: bigger, better presented, with sauces and all the works.
Gary tries it and, although the transcript cuts off a bit in the final part, the overall tone and setup of the video make it clear that he’s doing the classic comparison of “who wins the title of cheapest and most edible burger”.
The video is pure street-food entertainment: Gary talking fast, with a British accent, making jokes, complaining, laughing and putting on the face of “this is shitty” or “this one is actually edible”.
White Castle loses on size and flavor (too small and slimy). The £1 from Blackpool wins on value, size and experience.
It’s a typical Gary Eats video: direct comparison, real prices, honest reactions (sometimes brutal), a bit of chatting with the local people and that vibe of “''I’m going to try the cheapest shit on the planet and tell you if it’s worth it'&”. It’s not high cuisine, it’s pure fast and street food mess for you to laugh and get hungry (or disgusted, depending on the case).
In summary, little fag: it’s a duel of one-dollar burgers between the tiny and disappointing White Castle slider in Las Vegas ($1.39) against the £1 burger from Blackpool. Gary laughs, complains, pays fairly, leaves a tip/charity and leaves you with the question of “which country has the least shitty cheap food?”.
