Varg Vikernes has actually been offered exactly that kind of money to play live, and he turned it down.
In 2018, Vikernes revealed that he was offered £300,000 (roughly $425,000 USD at the time) to fly to London and play just two concerts for his solo project, Burzum.
He completely rejected the offer for a few very specific, unyielding reasons:
1. He Openly Despises the Metal Community
Vikernes has stated that he has no interest in interacting with the metal subculture or practicing with other musicians. When addressing the $425,000 offer, he infamously said, "I’d rather spend a month in prison than rehearse with some metalheads."
2. He Claims Not to Care About Financial Wealth
According to Vikernes, money is not a motivating factor in his life. In his commentary on why he wouldn't perform, he noted that he would genuinely rather stay home, spend time with his family, change the oil in his car, or collect rotten wood from the forest than do something he dislikes just for a paycheck. He has vocalized a deep disdain for what he calls the "rot of greed" in modern society.
3. Burzum Was Never Meant to Be a Live Band
Burzum was always a strict studio-only, one-man project. Vikernes has noted that he never even wanted to live the life of a traditional musician or perform on a stage. In 2018, he officially declared the project dead, calling Burzum part of his "painful past."
4. Logistical and Legal Barriers
Even if he wanted to do a high-ticket, exclusive concert, pulling it off globally would be a logistical nightmare:
• Travel Restrictions: Because of his 1990s convictions in Norway (for the murder of Mayhem guitarist Euronymous and multiple church burnings) and later legal issues in France, entering certain countries (especially the United States) on a visa would be incredibly difficult or impossible.
• Venue Backlash: Given his vocal, highly controversial neo-Nazi and racist political ideologies, very few mainstream promoters or venues would risk the public backlash, protests, or security risks associated with hosting him.
While your math is right—he could easily find 500 die-hard fans willing to pay $1,000 a ticket; Vikernes values his isolation and anti-commercial lifestyle far more than a quick payday.
