Big vibes but ultimately still a gta style game (which is not my fav). I will continue when I have time. I liked the directional kung fu system but not the parry mechanic. Tackling with cars is very janky (esp when you try to take down a street race) and escaping from cops can be only down sometimes by tackling because just driving fast the AI is too good to make mistakes.
Shame about what happened to hong kong, the real city and all.

one of the things I hate most about modern AAA western games like GTA or Assassins Creed or any Sony 3rd person shooter from the last 15 years is the movement and just how everthing feels to play, it just feels so shite lol.

They will always have crazy motion inertia where it feels like you're playing as a drunk person, overly long + complicated uncancellable animations to do anything, just trying to turn your character around feels like driving a motorbike it's so floaty and slippery etc

Those kind of design decisions can work in something like Arma which is actually trying to be a realistic milsim or in a simracer which is actually trying to depict driving realistically but now its in everything and it feels the worst in modern Rockstar games. Like why do you have to repeatedly tap a button to sprint in GTA5, could you not just have it where you sprint by fully pushing the analogue stick or at least have you just hold down the button instead, it feels like it's intentionally made to feel like ass

Idk what the point of this post is, I'm just rambling and complaining about shit like I usually do on this board umbasa….

RDR2 is the worst example of what you are describing to this date. Just useless pretentious shit mechanics and movie game junk. I miss when stories were told in gameplay and not walking talking take gameplay nonsense or cutscene.

I kinda feel like the Rockstar / modern bloated open world game approach is the worst of both worlds

Like it's obviously best when games tell their narrative interactively through gameplay, something which tiny teams 20 years ago and yeehaw one person devs in their bedroom now seem to be able to do but which modern AAA studios can't

But at least with cutscenes they can still potentially have compelling visual direction as with any kind of film, and you can just skip them if you don't give a fuck. Sure it's a very crude way to tell a story in a game because you're basically just having these two separate discrete parts where there's the actual game and then you just jarringly become a film for a few minutes to do the story stuff because it's easier than actually naturally integrating it into the game

But with so many modern games there will just be a "mission" or whatever where you either drive a car from A to B or are forced into slow walk while some malaka dumps exposition in your ear and at that point I would honestly rather just have a cutscene, even a badly made one because it just feels like you are wading my time lol
