The video is titled I Tried a Curry HOTTER Than a Phaal… This Was Insane!🌶️” and comes from the channel Rich Rates Food (run by an English guy who spends his time eating and rating food across the UK; he has around 9k subscribers and gives honest reviews of takeaways and hidden-gem restaurants).

Posted around early October 2026, it already has over 56,000 views, nearly a thousand likes, and about 50 comments. It’s a roughly 12-minute food review where the guy visits a tucked away restaurant in Cornwall, England, called The Journeyman; located in an old mill at Mellingey Mill, near Padstow/St Issey.

He arrives at a place that isn’t your “traditional” Indian restaurant (the chef, Steve, is English and has been in Cornwall for 25 years), yet it’s listed in the *Good Curry Guide* (Cobra) and even made *The Independent’s* top 50 curries list. Everything is cooked to order, using spices that are toasted and ground in-house.

First, he tries the starters:

• Chicken pakoras (crispy, with tender chicken and a flavor of spices rather than rancid oil).

Then, the main courses:

• A Nepalese lamb dish (featuring coconut, Nepalese spices, and a South Indian twist—a huge favorite there) and a Nepalese beef dish (meat that falls apart, deep flavor, fresh cilantro). He rates everything a perfect 10, saying it’s as good as, or better than, many “authentic” Indian spots.

The climax is the “Make Chef’s Day Special” (or “Make the Chef’s Day”), the absolute hottest level on the menu. It’s made with Naga/Reaper chilies plus pure chili extract. It’s a brilliant fire-engine red, not the typical dark brown color. The guy takes the first bite and gets absolutely wrecked: the heat hits him instantly (it doesn't wait for 2–3 bites like others do); he gets the hiccups, sweats like a pig, his fingers tingle, his forehead turns tomato red, and he says, “I think I may have made a mistake” and “Steve is crazy.”

He notes that it’s twice as hot as the Dave’s Hot Chicken he’d tried previously. Even so, the flavor shines through the heat, he calls it the most delicious vindaloo he’s ever eaten.

In the end, he gives the whole restaurant a 10/10, recommends visiting if you’re near Padstow, and says he’ll be back (even for his boss’s birthday). The bill came to around £84, including beers and a brownie. There are clear timestamps: the intro to the place, an interview with Steve, the regular tasting, and the "hell" challenge.

The place is legit, the chef’s and the guide’s claims are backed by public sources, and the spicy challenge is credible (though subjective, "hotter than a phaal" depends on who’s saying it, but Naga/Reaper peppers plus extract can indeed surpass a standard takeaway phaal). If you’re into serious heat, this guy isn’t exaggerating his reaction.
