seriously tho, I kinda dislike pretty much all the Sonic games, even 2 and 3 which are considered the classic ones, and think they are kinda nonsensical from a game design perspective. Everything about the controls and physics and feel of the game makes you want to go fast, but everything about the level design and game design seems to want to punish you for doing that. The games are so zoomed in and have the genesis 4:3 aspect ratio so you're just gonna run into shit constantly if you try to actually have fun. Not to mention there isn't even a timer or anything so there's no actual gameplay incentive to try and go fast, even the 2D Mario games had a timer. Sure it was extremely long and you would never run it out unless you were retarded but it still provided more of a reason to go fast than in Sonic which was marketed on speed and doing cool shit and just gave no reason why you should do that unless you're a speedrunner or some gay shit like that. The best Sonic game was this yeehaw pinball kinda game imo
