Well, so, you know that we as humans are able to master a skill. A skill is something dat we are able to do, and we then can be said have a bad skill and a good skill at doing some thing. Some thing like basket weaving, it takes considerable skill to make baskets which are durable and those who are of a quality, meaning they last longer, prized by those who use them

Then we have question of wat do do with such skill? If a good basket weaver can only produce for example ten baskets a month, how many basket craftspeople do we need to satisfy a berry picking operation in village? Perhaps, then, more should be trained in a basket weaving craft and the output of baskets will increase. Quality will drop but it will satisfy the demand, any way, point is dat this is how skill is built up. By continous practice, the durability of it will hopefully increase. Because the skill of the producer will increase, it is in the hands of a craftsman to produce something that directly represents their skill

In modern times, craftswomen and like are mostly associated with luxury. Luxury, in its "traditional" sense, simply means something that is guranteed to be durable and retain its value for as much. So, leather jackets that are made by a competent craftswoman will last long and retain its value simply because of the skill that manifests in making such a jacket. In curernt understanding of luxury, wat it means is the name and social status that you gain by possesing it. If you have a Hermes bag, well, this directly mirrors you as a person. The quality of a Hermes bag can be prized, but quality is not the point, the point is fashon(consuming preference of a group in a given time). In our world where luxury seems to be attainable, in its subverted understanding, by anyone who wills to spend money, it is no surprise that people will be taken by this utopia that you could gain class by simply consuming the fashionable way. But dat is not wat happens. People who were born in richness and people who werent, and yet consuming all the same luxury, like a Hermes bag, it doesnt make them more similar. It doesnt tie them together, those people's class doesnt intersect so wat is created is more categories for people who werent born in richness. People who are poor but have a Hermes bag, while not really a big possibility, are a contradiction, so for them it would be just kinda a stupidity to own such an expensive item. But if, for a moment, we allow this to happen, then it would be clear that those people like dat would be called "rich-poor" and not rich. Because of wealth, and most importantly, lineage

So, then, wat about the craftswomen? They then are no different from a poor artist. It is their condition of being a labourer, (craft is manual), that allows them to be skilled at a craft. It is their sense of wat is ideal, of their values, that output of their work is characterized at. Suppose, then, there is a craftsguy making watches. There is a difference if one makes watches which are prized in a village, an urban legend in a city, and which are known by as a luxury brand. If you are an urban legend, making watches which the community cares about, you are irreplacable and your skill is recognized as such. Mastery, skill, is honored by the status of a legend. But if you work for a Swiss watch factory, no matter how skilled you are, it is not really your watches that are prized but the brand's. Your skill then becomes a qualification for perfoming the job youve been asigned at the watch factory. Your replacability is ensured by structure and conformity of the watches to an unified design, here, design splinters from skill and craftmanship

But our ability to masterfully produce never just fade away. Even if you toil at a watch factory, just because structually you are replacable, you are irreplacable in spirit. Your craftsguyship is assured by your own practice and confidence, by the outputs and longevity of your produce, by quality and mastery that your produce embody. The thing dat you made, be it watches or a chess move, is inseparable from your being, it is irreplacable, as the practice of you doing your craft cannot be replaced neither denied. This is wat constitutes an art

there's rolex and patek philippe etc factories near me and in mornings all the groups of ppl i see entering them r just normal young ppl of all genders and ethnicities, not some old guys who have played w/ watched their whole lives. so the process is probably very automatised nowadays. tho there probably still few special models hand crafted by experts

Yes, well, mass produced factory watches are not wat I meant. I meant mechanical watches, which are built by hand. Mechanical watches have one downside though, they are not as precise as factory watches, and require maintenance. So, well, mass produced watches are mostly about design not craftsguyship, practicality and watnot, but mechanical watches are usually a luxury because it takes considerable skill to make one, yet alone make a good one. It is similar to making jewelry, you can make yourself a wedding ring by a jeweler. You can ask for it to be adorned with a color rock, or an inscription, or choose thickness. That takes skill, it is personalized, and exist because people feel strongly about being married and stuff. But there also mass produced wedding rings, maybe the kind you wear at the ceremony. It is just made with a single mold, unified in design, and exist really as a practicality… even if beautiful still

Mass produced luxury is not luxury, thats just shit for goyim. Real luxury is handmade clothes made my master craftsmen, you never heard about those brands.
I only found out recently the italian provinces we traversed through february on the eastern coastline are famous for their artisan shoes but you will never see those artisan craftsmen rent a billboard or be featured in a rap music video

Why? And how much will I be paid?
>>288558
Well, so? I think I were intensly clear dat there are two understandings of luxury

The thread post doesnt explain wat is design exactly, so, maybe explaining it would bring some clarity to the project. Design is a formal system, in short. Designers are not crafstsmen in principle, because they are ficitons of the qualification apparatus of the education industry that interlinks with the job market

Since beginning of craft, there was no distinction between design aspect and crafting aspect, so people did the weaving patterns which were inherited or invented by some myriad of ways. (You could say that patterning and a way of making has very strong connection with the location of the craftsguy). If some people weaved baskets, then people who used them couldnt really compare with the other ways of making baskets from some other locality. Production was intensly local and linked to local ways and community

Design was invented to standardize this patterning and ways of making stuff. Designers then become, in a way, megalomaniacal 'creators' with a massive ego. Thats how they are, because there can be no such occupation as a designer if you are not certain that your own values overshadow all others, design in a sense is a violence done to craft as a traditional process of technology

So, wat about handmade clothes? In an age of industrial manufacture, it is not really a good bet to just say that traditional ways are by default good. They are good, in limited ways, but they are constrained by scalability. Traditionally, the clothing industry is not efficient or scalable enough, it always rested on assumptions of really cheap labour, so mass produced, not half bad, clothing is in itself a miracle and some thing to be celebrated

Wat the thread post is about is not dat. There are craftspeople all around the globe, but thats not about them. It is about their skill. It is about our skill, as we all possess at least one. If there are an Italian shoemaker boy there, in some province some where, who has wonder hands… Well, but who cares about him? His craft might be excellent, but that are not current demands on the market. The demand is just names, affiliations and symbols of fashion and class. Thats why youll never see a humble Italian shoe maker in a rap video. Because rap video is a produce of a system which whole existence is to optimize the traditional ways to non existence, to annihilate its values into nothing and establish pure symbolic exchange. Thats wat they are doing in rap, they exchange symbols of wealth as a signal of status. 99% of people who listen to rap like this could never ever acquire such symbols and exclusivity is the point. Because it justifies existence rapers, and hence, their revenue streams

apple watch (and all other smartwatch) battery lasts 50h or something. big appeal of watch is that it's tool u can have on u continuously. that benefit is cool but pretty minor in the end, so the effort of having to charge once a day easily starts outweighing it. also smartwatches get ur smartphone stuff a bit too much in ur face imo (like, u can reply to notifications, make calls, check apps etc, so it's basically like having smartphone on ur wrist). i like the rectangular form factor tho. round ones like samsung look stupid

dunno this is woman watch so it's pretty small. maybe some bigger watch would be uncomfortable while sleep

I think smart watches are all about fitness. Well at least looking at Apple Health it is like dat. Dunno, it sounds nice to know general health indicators and dat is exactly why you have a fitness watch, I know dat

Though I think charging smart watch once a day doesnt sound too inconvinient… You could just put it charging at night and get it at morning. Dunno, I dont think you need time dat much while sleeping. (Yeah, smartphone stuff make little sense… unless paying with a watch. Then it cool)

How much do you care about the fitness watch features though? You must care about them a lot

well night time use is important bc it tracks how restless and stressful (or restful) ur sleep was, potential oxygen drops (sleep apnea etc), also exact time u fall asleep and wake up. think smartwatch users use it during the night too, and they just charge like hour b4 sleeping or something, while they brush their teeth etc getting ready for bed

>How much do you care about the fitness watch features though?

well most important feature of them is heart rate monitoring, which is lot more versatile than u may think. tho maybe limited usefulness if u never do any sports. if u live in not too polluted area u should maybe jog or something few times week too
other one is pedometer. good to see roughly how much u moved during day, if u have some targets u would want to hit. i just try to get 3-7k steps a day (~30-60 min of walking), which isn't much but better than sedentary

Dunno, sleeping with watch is kinda dumb… If you have sleep apnea, would you know about dat before getting a smart watch? If you have bad health, do you really need a watch to prove dat? If you have bad sleep, are you really so oblivious of it if sleeping is wat you do every day? Any way, you could say, but if you sleep with watch which tracks sleep, then there will be accurate data and that is the point. Well, but this data has no legal meaning, it has no medical meaning either, so wat is the purpose? The purpose is then being confidence, not really health, wat those fitness watches do is sell you confidence more than any thing

Dunno, by now, Im increasingly disillusioned with fitness… Is it so important to know your heart rate at any time if it is obvous when you have it too fast or too slow… Yeah, the point of this smart watch is historical data, from which patterns can be found. But that only can either scare you or make you confident, you either can be afraid of being unhealty or being healthy, and most people really care about being healthy (Wat it was all about? Health sucks… Pedometer is good though. I try to close my rings daily)
>>288787

no, most ppl ignore their snoring, ignore if they feel bad when waking up etc. sleep apnea requires testing w/ medical device (costs money). audio recording or smartwatch can give some indication that u should get tested
>If you have bad health, do you really need a watch to prove dat?
well, some ppl r intuitive, but most ppl really don't notice stuff like inflammation or stress or inadequate sleep that well. u can survive w/ them easily in ur 20s etc, but these issues accumulate
>Well, but this data has no legal meaning
yes, ur right, it's not medical or legal data, but data based on american big data companies comparing millions of ppls' data. it's very accurate tho
>sell you confidence more than any thing
no, most wat they sell is making fitness some game, which is very effective motivator for lot of ppl. like, u get some compulsion to get x steps a day etc. bit like duolingo basically, some parts have maybe questionable usefulness, but it still gets u doing dat thing
>if it is obvous when you have it too fast or too slow…
how is too slow obvious ? well, slow is resting heart rate, and they roughly measure ur stress by how much over that ur going throughout the day. which u don't notice urself. lot of small thigns
imo u should get some device like that if ur unhealthy. normal healthy young person doesn't benefit much, but everyone else does

Well, but overall point stands, health is always a hyperbole, it is either you are healthy or you are not, it is either you have a problem or you do not, there is no middle in this matter. So you have to have confidence that you are at least on right track of being healthy and that is really all the point. Its true, they make it a game, but everything is a game, banking is a game, gambling is a game, they make drones a game, learning is a game, government is a game too, we have apps for dat

Well, you cant be protected at all times and be certain at all times. So, nah, they might be well good for finding sleep apnea but it is not reasonable to be always afraid of something that can manifest itself by a practically random chance

Sure, health issues accumulate. And they can be remedied, some times. Any way, it is not conceivable that people would just ignore a wound, no one is gonna just say ah I dont care there is big red spot on my leg, wat theyll say that it is probably fine. And it is far different than just not noticing, people do notice things about their body very well, but many people just do not expect bad things happen to them. (Thats kinda a bias, so, yeah it is just a human thing, because we are not always sure)

Well, but thats kinda bogus… Targets for health are based on groups and they cannot be really accurate by a quantity. They can be accurate only by a quality, basically, what is expected(healthy) data for a chain smoker in 50s and chain smoker in 20s is very different. Which is obvious, but wat is not obvious is that expected values are a judgement and that is exactly why no data by smart watches can ever be legal or medical, because you trust your GP and watever to have sound judgement, not his data (you have bias for statistics and data)

When heart rate is too slow you basically feel like dying. It is noticable, it is only obvious if it is really low, which is very rare, any way, if you are unhealthy wat you should do is to find out why and fitness watch cant do dat. You can be only be judged as unhealthy by a human, and a watch can do is give you data which yourself then interpret. Because you are either scared or confident about your health, it will be either a dire situation or quite good situation, so, it is all useless and give you absolutely no thing of worth or help you with no heath wat so ever, even a little bit. This works exactly how traditional medicine works, and to be honest, if it helps then it really does. I dont underestimate wat people believe in, so, yeah, if fitness watch makes you more healthy that is not because it gives you some indicators that you can act on, no, it is because it makes you to believe in that you can either be unhealthy or healthy and since all aliment can be remedied, it gives you hope that youll be healthy. And that gives you confidence, and confidence can really make you healthy just by belief
