in Mexico and South America, phone theft used to be very common.

thieves stole lots of phones, which were then openly sold at local flea markets.

now, they rarely bother stealing phones because they’ve become much cheaper, and many people carry two phones (an old/cheap one and a newer one). ppl just hand over the old phone, so robbers have shifted to simply demanding cash instead. :DDD
