>>286080Found out there's another "authentic Hungarian" restaurant in town a couple days ago and I just realized I don't give a fuck. A few years ago I'd have been getting mad because I'd think, maybe this time they actually know what the hell they're doing. But now that I've watched the same watery, paprika-colored beef soup get served as "goulash" in half the fucking world, I just don't, can't give a fuck. If you can't even be bothered to make the one dish you're advertising properly, what's the point. I still think people should cook other cultures' food, but apparently good goulash is dead and buried once you cross the border.
It almost surprises me how fast I got over it because we've been living through the age of everything getting watered down for the last 15 years anyway. Every "traditional" place ends up serving the same tourist slop with a Hungarian flag stuck in it. At some point you stop expecting anyone to brown the meat properly or know what the fuck caraway is. Not sure if that's maturity or just surrender.

im surprised they didnt kill discs earlier, but i guess its because the people who call shots in sony are conservative boomers
PC games (steam), music (spotify, etc) and movies (netflix, etc) went digital ages ago
dont get me wrong i know why its bad, but i honestly think its over for physical media
people primarily care whats convenient and imminent, its just how it is and no matter what argument is said about ownership rights and resale value, people wont care.
in a sense its understandable. for instance, think you have amazon prime video on your tv, and one day you have impulse to watch some specific movie. its one remote control click away, instant payment, 15 euro or whatever. you can do that and start watching immediately, or you can drive to town and go find the blu-ray disc, which in comparison is a huge hassle.
this convenience factor is why i dont see this trend ever changing, in fact its only gonna get worse and the importance of physical copies becomes less and less relevant, because people dont even have anything to play the discs with anymore.
literally the only thing im wishful for, is that EU makes some laws about digital ownership, where if you purchase a copy of something you must have real ownership over it and must be able to sell it. Im not really sure how that would work, but its really the only thing you can wish for at this point.
this playstation thing though, i already saw it coming when they started to sell digital only version of the consoles. from that point it was just a matter of time.

>>286088Thread is not really about physical media, it's about dealing with loss, but if you decided to share your thoughts on physical media regardless of that, I treasure that.
Guess what I'm really wondering is if going through all these losses makes us more rugged and ready to adapt or it leads to sensory loss and easy manipulation. You know, like how conspiracy theories say they want us to play shooters to know how to handle weapons in ww3 lol. (guess thats not even conspiracy when we have games like arma) Just thinking about it makes me think it should be judged on a case by case basis.
No. 286097 [PM]
>>286095I get that, but i think partly why it doesnt feel that bad is because its been so long going on and kinda expected.
When it comes to that conspiracy, i dont think so. Its actually other way around, you know, like how tabletop RPGs kinda evolved from early war simulations. Computer games then evolved from those. Shooters are just addictive and not particularly hard to make especially nowadays. Games like arma exist for military autists (and there are lot of those), not really for regular people.

>>286088the convenience argument is complete nonsense. Compare watching something on a Blu-ray to watching on streaming
buy a Blu-ray and you have a high quality version of the film which you own forever, can do whatever you want with
watch something on streaming, first you have to find out which of the countless Jewish streaming services it's actually on, make an account, pay for a subscription to allow you to effectively rent the film, traverse the dogshit UI of said streaming service, then have a dogshit viewing experience with ads, constant auto playing, inconsistent video quality because you're just streaming a video, plus Netflix or whoever can just randomly remove the film on a whim from their library making it unviewable
idk man, to me that sounds a lot more inconvenient than just buying a Blu-ray online and getting it delivered to you lol
No. 286100 [PM]
>>286098Thats a separate issue you are talking about which is availability.
In prime video you have pretty much all classic movies, you don't get to watch them with subscription though, you either buy them or rent them individually.
Either way your argument is addressing completely different issues. Im talking about person who has the streaming account already set up and the movie he wants to watch in the service. What are the odds that that kind of person is gonna order a blu-ray and wait 3 days for it to arrive, when he can just deal with the shitty UI for 10 seconds and start watching the UHD version of the movie. You can't really say that it in such case it would be easier to order a blu-ray, no matter how shitty the UI is or whatever.
But of course majority of people just watch whats available on netflix. They just subscribe open the app, browse it a bit and start watching whatever.
I completely understand what you are saying though, but those nerdy little details you mentioned don't matter to majority of people and im talking specifically about majority.

>In 2024, it was estimated that about 80% of the store's income comes from selling merchandise. Because the majority of the DVD vendors that provided them with movies are now closed, and the remaining ones have minimum orders that are far too large for a single store, all new movies come from Walmart and Target, while the snacks and candy are bought from Costco.[29]
