Fighting games are like communism. The idea sounds good on paper but the result is always bad

>>274132bad take. sf is good. low iq, but good.
in competitive scene people like to pretend there is lot of strategy going on, there isnt. its 60% reflex based and 30% understanding the characters, the rest 10% is sheer luck.

The problem the percentages you highlight are incorrect in practice. Fighting games have this unique paper scissors rock gameplay where not really characters but moves interplay with the frames it takes to execute them. For that reason there are hard counters and punish windows that need to be learnt one by one by each characters. It's the reason why fighting games have sophisticated training rooms compared to shooters where it's really 60% of taking someone down is aiming which is a general skill
Maybe at the very low level its reflexes but the encounter in fighting games goes beyond getting hit once
And then we have the character and move bloat that comes with these decade old fighters where getting into the scene requires more and more commitment to rote learning and memorizing your opponents move
This leads to the point where pros really spend most of their time in training rooms and not out there playing the game as most shooter games
Tryharding and aimtraining in shooters is still a relaitvely new thing compared to sweating in training rooms alone

>>274146i said 60% because without reflexes you are not gonna take those opportunities anyhow
its mostly knowing the characters though after certain point
i remember in sf4 tournament some nigga just won the whole thing by using adon last, which at the time was considered trash character, but he won because the opponent didnt have proper understanding how that character plays since he didnt expect it to be actually played.

>>274152>because without reflexes you are not gonna take those opportunities anyhowexcept you absolutely can
Lets say you attack, get countered with a move, just by the time that move plays out, you can ready your counter. It's like rock paper scissors but the opponents move has a residual frame time and you can ready your next move while that plays out
>sf4 tournoYeah sure, let's say someone takes a shit character in apex legends, it doesnt matter because to take down that character you still need to shoot them and dont need to know their specific moveset.

reflex isnt just how fast you can press button, its also about how fast can you mentally understand the situation
No. 274168 [PM]
>>274167okay mr wikipedia, in common speech reflex means reaction time not "raw motoric skills"
