i dont think spicy food is that popular here, atleast im not fan of spicy food, and most regular finnish food is pretty non-spicy..

usually for roguelikes with big screen i prefer text, because text is with 1 bit of color, so its very clean and you can tell things apart easier.. tileset or graphics can be good too, especially if animated. So, it really depends.

by not practical, i mean you would have lot of issues with it running modern software, or running on modern hardware.. it has fine gui, and has cool thing very you can have tabs with multiple programs in single window frame. its unique. But if you would compare doing daily computing tasks with Haiku vs Ubuntu or etc, it would most likely lose as how convenient it is, if its even capable of same tasks. for people like u and me, we could probably figure out how to do stuff with it, but what about average user?

Im pretty sure FreeDOS can run pretty much all MS-DOS programs without a issue, so in that regard its kinda useful. some guy could use it for instance to run some old MS-DOS software, and have still updates to operating system.. thats how i see it as practical..

yeah im sceptical about reach os too.. but the project is still active in 2023 and they hired more people. so it looks like it has some purpose.

Indeed, even if it meant to run on guy computer and have all common thing, today, it is possible to go site like Google document one and do pretty much any thing… Though WebPositive browser seem to be based on modern version of WebKit but I dunno if it can launch big site… So, yeah, Haiku isn't dat useful, at least on modern hardware, but I believed it capable of all task none the less, at least it had potential for dat…
Huh… You know, I only ever seen DOS needed in old game, and those game work fine in DOSBox which seem to have it's own implementation… It seems you can use FreeDOS inside DOSBox but that gets like computer in computer and very hard… I think grandpa should get with the times, and use modern tool to do real computing… May be… May be not exactly…

Here is a case for Genode: Genode's drivers can run on multiple kernels and soft ware too… Even though you meant to start a VM inside Genode to enjoy thing, it is possible to start modern browser right in Genode… I believe it had bright future…

Well, as Unix is a philosophy, I think it is way to go even if build entirely other system… Like, many say that POSIX might be very hard to comply to entirely, may be simplify dat? Other wise it is more of kernel's type than any thing… As making entirely different thing is hardly possible unless they find other way to compute, people mutate into monster or some thing, or some thing…
Much of the innovation is shunned by standards, that's true, but standards were created for compatability purpose, like standardizing behaviour of a particular function is cruical because if it wouldn't be then bad thing happen… For example, imagine language where arithmetics not exactly defined and you know behaviour only one platform… Now imagine some one port the language to other platform and architecture and arithmetics changes… Hard to imagine more disastrous case… This cases are pretty real like dat, when you use language for example you expect it to behave same way every where…
Of course, instead of formal specification you could have a promise to do so… But without an specification different implementations of, say, compilers is hardly possible… Innovation then is trying to improve existing thing, and creativity is creating thing for functional purpose or amusement… Might not exactly make sense, but dat it is how in soft ware: It is inherently not perfect, not near it, and most of time won't even comply to all the standards it supposed to… One example would be GNU libc, despite it long history, it doesn't exactly comply to all of the standard… This is because GNU libc is THE standard… Historical baggage, well, all thing can be improved one way or another… Very old C libraries for example might have design choices that allow them only to be maintained, not to significantly to improve… This is mainly a problem of cost more than any thing, it just mean greedy company do not want make it better and it just single guy maintain it all… See, that's the problem with making new thing: Making mistake, adjustment is evitable, meaning all new thing bound to become old thing with same deficiencies…

yea, im actually POSIX and Unix enjoyer, dont get me wrong. but what i was saying that basically if i were capable to make os, it wouldnt be much of fun to comply to all specifications, but to make something new. In software i dont usually enjoy re-inventing the wheel. maybe it would be fun to make retro os, like serenity os.. you know, its not really useful, but its cool. well, but for computing gnu/linux is really all i need.. i never really felt it was lacking something in its core design.
